Fun Facts for a Fantastic 4th!
The first firework displays
came on July 4, 1777, only one
year after the signing of the
Declaration of Independence.
On July 4, 1903, it was
reported that 2-3 inches of
snow blanketed the town
of Leadville, Colorado!
In 1831, a reporter from
Connecticut stated that he
believed it was “remarkable”
how it often rained after July
4th festivities. He linked the
smoke from fireworks with
affecting the weather and
called for legislation to use
the firing of cannons to
regulate weather conditions.
Independence day is the
only holiday that celebrates
the United States.
